We are going back to school with Allison Mecham Evans as we talk about the often jarring transition from being a woman to becoming a mother.
We share our personal experiences, challenges and Allison explains some of the science that has shaped her outlook on the best approaches in the fourth trimester and beyond.

Allison Mecham Evans is a birth educator, life coach, and writer. She recently moved back to her home state of Nebraska after 23 years away and now lives in Omaha with her husband and their teenaged daughter and son.
Allison graduated from UNL with degrees in English and French and began her career as a Naval intelligence officer. She served four years in Japan (where she met her husband, Guy, who is still on active service) and Washington, D.C., and then left the Navy to become pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. She earned a master’s degree in English Literature from George Mason University and taught English at community college and private school.
Everything was going according to plan, and then she had a baby! Well, the baby was planned, but birth was totally unexpected and changed everything! She left school teaching and has been an evangelist for empowered birth and mothering ever since.
She certified as a HypnoBirthing educator in 2006 and since then taught women from all over the world while stationed with her husband in London, Japan, and Hawaii. In those years she also became a Martha Beck certified life coach and began integrating postpartum wellness into her practice. She created two self-paced digital courses for Udemy.com, “Childbirth and Postpartum: Overcoming Your Five Biggest Fears” and “Childbirth and Postpartum: The New Dad’s
