The Artists Way - Sense of Compassion (Wk 9)
Welcome to week nine.
Good old fear disguised as other things like procrastination and laziness. We have all been there. One of my favourite books that helped me with this issue is The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. Its short, sweet and totally bad ass. Read that one for a good kick in the pants.
This week, I found the ideas around discipline, ease and enthusiasm an interesting one. While I agree that enthusiasm is far more compelling when trying to create, at least for myself sometimes I just have to put in the time, keep my butt in the chair even on days when I feel tired and unenthusiastic about my creative work. While it would make no sense to go through this every day, use of willpower can also give me an energy to work with. Some days it takes discipline to get to the mat or boot up my computer and write and while it doesn't feel all that enjoyable, it does feel like flexing a muscle and making creativity a practice (kind of like the morning pages). I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this and more from the chapter
Week 9 Conversation Starters
1. Do you agree that you must be free of your barriers in order to flow creatively or are they tools and teachers for you?
2. How does fear show up for you? Procrastination? Constant research or preparation without actually getting started?
3. Reading your MORNING PAGES!! How did it go? What did you notice?
4. What are your creative priorities or the year?
