The Artist's Way - Sense of Autonomy (Wk 11)
Welcome to week 11.
"To be an artist is to recognize the particular. To appreciate the peculiar".
Although some of the work in this book may seem heavy I appreciated this chapter for reminding me to celebrate my own urge to create and have a blast doing it even if it isn't "good work" or conventional.
As I write more and more for professional purposes sometimes I forget that I am also doing it because it is fun and although sometimes lonely, it is mostly a joy to go into my office, shut the door and find out what ideas are rolling around in my mind.
Another piece of this chapter that struck me this week was the ideas around success especially financial. Because I am writing and taking care of my daughter more than teaching or seeking a traditional job every so often, I hit a place where I start judging my work by how commercially viable it might be as a finished product. Interestingly the quality of the work usually suffers and when I get notes back from my first reader they aren't pretty.
Looking forward to hearing your reflections on this weeks themes.
