The Artist's Way - Sense of Possibility (Wk 5)
Welcome to Week 5.
"Pray to catch the bus, then run as fast as you can."
Work in partnership with the creator. I love this idea because it neither supports magical thinking as a standalone tool for transformation and abundance, nor does it reject that magic can happen, especially when you are aligned with your goals.
Sitting back and letting God, or the Universe do all the hard work has never been my thing. Somehow it just feels wrong to me to ask for or even expect something without doing my share of the work to make it happen.
I think about the idea of flow states here when it comes to creativity. The "magic" happens when an musician really knows their stuff. They have practiced for years and know their scales and theory inside and out. Then they get up to jam at a show and their skill and knowledge mixes with some serious grace and inspiration to create a musical masterpiece.
Another theme that I found interesting to explore in this week's work was the virtue trap. A few months ago, I was feeling very overwhelmed trying to juggle my responsibilities and lack of energy. I Steve posed the question of "If time and money weren't a factor, what would you do?"
On that list was more time working on my new book. While some of the other items on the list like "ride a unicorn" or "fly" may not be currently attainable (at least while I am awake) writing certainly was with just a few practical details in the way.
Now, I have about 8 hours per week where a lovely young woman comes to my house and hangs out with Audrey so I can go into my office, shut the door and write!
This small thing has supported me so much lately that I feel crazy for thinking it wasn't a possibility before.
Week 5 Conversation Starters
1. How are those Morning Pages and Artist Dates coming?
2. When you wrote your "Wish List" or "Virtual-Trap Quiz" were there any surprises?
3. What would you do if time and money were no object? Is there anything on your list you might just be avoiding that is totally in the realm of possibility?
4. What are your big creative blocks or time and energy wasters?
